NOVA Golf Club Logo

We are glad to see your interest. NOVA Golf Club is a golf club licensed to use the USGA Handicap System and to issue official USGA Handicap Index cards. We have a roster of about 80 members.

As members of the NOVA Golf Club, we all must insist that all Club Members follow the principles of The Rules of Golf. All are encouraged to use the resources of the USGA.com and MyScorecard.com websites to explore the rules and explanations. Club bylaws are posted on the club website and in the clubhouse section of myscorecard.com.

NOVAGC has a Board of Directors, a Handicap Committee, a Competition Committee, and Play Date Coordinators. The Competition Committee manages NOVAGC outing competition formats and an annual competition format to select a season champion. A Play Date Coordinator is designated to coordinate each club outing. We currently schedule one weekend, usually a Saturday, and one weekday outing per month for March through October. We also play together in smaller groups outside of these dates. We have an annual meeting and golf social event in February to kick off the year. All members are encouraged to play together as often as possible and to have a good time while playing golf together.

Specific requirements for new members are as follows:

  1. Sponsorship for membership by two active members in good standing*
  2. Approval of membership application by NOVAGC Board of Directors
  3. Payment of membership fee as established by Board of Directors (currently $30)
  4. Payment of annual dues as established by Board of Directors (currently $30)
  5. Establish an account at www.myscorecard.com for tracking handicap

* If you are contacting us without sponsorship of an active member, we will be happy arrange sponsors to support your membership.

Specific requirements for continuing membership are:

  1. Payment of annual dues by Mar 10th
  2. Maintain active account on www.myscorecard.com
  3. Play with a club member a minimum three times during the season, at least one of which must be a club sponsored event

Members who commit to participate in an outing and subsequently do not participate are responsible for all fees unless the course forgives the fees or a member/guest agrees to play in their place.

We have some bureaucracy, but it does not interfere with us enjoying playing golf together. If you continue to be interested in being a member of the NOVA GOLF Club, please fill out our online membership request form, you will be asked to provide the following information to NOVA Golf Club:

  3. Home City and State
  4. Clarification of your ability to play during the following times: M-F during day, Sat., Sun.
  5. Your permission to share the above information with the other members Once you submit the above information, we will take the next step. We look forward to meeting you and playing golf with you.

Here is some information about what it means to be part of an official club.

"USGA DEFINITION OF A GOLF CLUB: A golf club is an organization of at least ten individual members that operates under bylaws with committees (including a Handicap Committee) to supervise golf activities, provide peer review, and maintain the integrity of the USGA Handicap System. Members of a golf club must have a reasonable and regular opportunity to play golf with each other. Members must be able to return scores personally. These scores must be readily available for inspection by others, including, but not limited to, fellow members and the club's Handicap Committee."

Here are the main items of compliance for the NOVA Golf Club to obtain official USGA status:

  1. Club has at least 10 members, has bylaws, and has a Handicap Committee composed mostly of members and chaired by a member
  2. Club Members must play with a fellow member at least 3 times per season, one of which must be in a club-sponsored event.
  3. Club Members are required the use of the USGA procedures to adjust hole scores before posting (ESC should be used prior to you posting your scores)
  4. Club Members are required to post both home and away scores; this includes 9-hole rounds and MyScorecard.com will we automatically combine 9-hole scores according to USGA rules
  5. Club Members are required to record the correct USGA Course Rating and USGA Slope Rating with each posted score from different set of tees (MyScorecard.com does this)
  6. The Club must make current scoring records and a USGA Handicap Index list available for inspection by others (MyScorecard.com enables all members of our club to view all other club members' Handicap Indexes and Scoring Records)
  7. The Club must insist that the principles of "The Rules of Golf" be followed.
